Exclusive: England boycott of Russia World Cup could see them banned from 2022 – Telegraph.co.uk

Boris Johnson raised the spectre of a boycott on Tuesday, and although sources close to the Foreign Secretary subsequently claimed he was talking about officials and dignitaries and not Southgate and his players, other MPs have cranked up the pressure on the Government to order a complete withdrawal.
They include Tom Tugendhat, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs select committee, and Chris Bryant, the chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Russia Group and former Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport.
Security and intelligence expert Professor Anthony Glees, head of the University of Buckingham’s Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies, told the Telegraph on Thursday England would be “in harm’s way” if any UK retaliation against Russia did not include a World Cup boycott.
Such a withdrawal would be unprecedented, although Yugoslavia were thrown out of the 1992 European Championship and replaced by Denmark with just a week’s notice after civil war broke out in the country.
